Kik Pool opening delayed due to water pump replacement

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The scheduled opening date for Kalamazoo’s Kik Pool has been

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The scheduled opening date for Kalamazoo's Kik Pool has been postponed by one day to while city officials wait for an inspection, the city of Kalamazoo said.

The pool at 1018 Walter St. was originally slated to open Wednesday, June 7. The opening date has been pushed to Thursday, June 8, due to a mechanical issue with the pool's water pump, the city said in a news release.

The pump has been replaced and the pool is now awaiting a final inspection before it will be ready to open, the city said on June 6.

"We regret this short delay, but need to make sure we’re ready to go for a safe and fun season," Recreation Manager Chad Wendt said. "We know everyone is excited to get in the water and we appreciate your patience. It will be worth the wait!"

The pool will open for lap swim from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. seven days a week and open swim, from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday, the city said in a news release.

Season pool passes are now available for purchase at the Kzoo Parks office, 251 Mills St. Starting June 7, day and season passes can be purchased at the pool.

Day passes are $7 for adults ages 18 and above and $4 for youth ages 2 to 17. Kids younger than 2 get free entry, the city said.

Season passes are available for individuals, families and youth. An individual season pass is $80 for Kalamazoo city residents or $125 for non-residents.

A family season pass is $105 for Kalamazoo city residents or $145 for non-residents. This pass includes up to six family members per address.

New this year, a youth season pass is also available for kids 12 to 17. It's $40 for Kalamazoo city residents or $55 for non-residents. City residents can apply for financial assistance to use toward the purchase of a resident youth membership through Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation.

Aqua fitness classes will also be hosted at the pool by Just Move Fitness and More starting Saturday, June 10 for adults 18 and older and youth accompanied by a participating adult. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m.

Aqua fitness classes are included in season passes or participants can purchase a daily pool pass to participate in a class. There is no additional fee to participate in a class.
